Possible Workman’s Comp Reimbursement for Therapeutic Massage

Posted by: Ruth Stollof on: May 2, 2010

Did you know that it may be possible to get workman’s compensation reimbursement for therapeutic massage when ordered by a physician?

Each case is different, and you should check with your physician and insurance company for exact details in each individual case, but here are some general guidelines when it comes to workman’s comp reimbursement for therapeutic massage…

Typically, your physician must state the medical condition, injury or illness for which the massage therapy is intended to provide relief. Generally this must be included on the written order or prescription.

The written order or prescription must give a frequency and duration (say how often) the massage therapy treatment should occur and how long the regimen should last.

All the paperwork must be filled out prior to receiving medical massage therapy on a regular basis. Typically, you must agree to allow the massage therapist to share information with your physician and insurance company.

More and more Therapeutic Massage is being recognized by physicians and insurance providers alike for the important role it can play in the treatment and recovery of various injuries and medical conditions.
